By Jane's Walk Singapore Follow | Public

Next week (May 2019), Jane’s Walk Singapore will be holding its 7th annual series of Walks. In all, 16 Walk Leaders have stepped forward to offer 18 Walks. The Walks cover diverse topics such as architecture, the creation of public spaces with conserved buildings, gentrification, migrant workers, and the achievements of outstanding Singaporean women. The Walks will take participants from Tiong Bahru to Toa Payoh, from MacRitchie to Marina Bay, from Clemenceau Avenue to Collyer Quay.

Stay tuned for the sign-up details as we will upload them progressively, in chronological order.

Jane’s Walk is an annual series of free, volunteer-led urban walks that honour urbanist, journalist, author, and activist Jane Jacobs (4 May 1916 – 25 April 2006), and her efforts to champion the voices of the masses in neighbourhood planning and city building. The Walks usually take place in the month of May – Mrs Jacobs’ birth month, and each Walk lasts between 90 minutes and three hours.

Jane’s Walk aims to connect, share, and develop ideas among participants and Walk Leaders, about where our communities are at, and where they are headed. Through the simple act of walking, Jane’s Walk encourages participants to take in the physical spaces around them, observe, reflect, share, and re-imagine the places in which they live, work, and play.
