To commemorate Yasmin's passing CausewayEXchange and Malay Heritage Centre are organising a complimentary five-hour movie marathon of three of her movies at the Auditorium, Malay Heritage Centre. The movies will be screened on the anniversary of her death, the 25th of July, with a repeat showing on the 26th July. Orked Ahmad will also be speaking at the events. All are welcome to join in the screening upon registration.
The three award-winning movies which will be screened are:
1. Rabun – Yasmin’s first film is about a free-spirited older couple, Pak Atan and Mak Inom, who decide to move to the country from the city to enjoy a quiet life. When they discover that Yem, a distant relative, has been cheating them of money, they cut him off and Yem plots revenge. Meanwhile, in the city, their daughter Orked, is being wooed by a young man, Yasin. Runtime: 90 minutes
2. Mukhsin – Twelve-year-old boy Mukhsin visits 10-year-old Orked’s village with his older brother and aunt to spend his school holidays. Mukhsin and Orked become sweethearts; their love story unfolds against the idyllic background of Malaysian village life. Runtime: 90 minutes
3. Talentime – A music teacher organises an interschool talent contest. Characters get embroiled in a world of heightened emotions, ambition, jealousy, heartbreak and romance which culminate in a day of music and performances on the contest day. Run time: 120 minutes.
