Dr. Rafael L. Bras, Georgia Tech's Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, will be visiting Korea, Thailand, Singapore and China in July and August 2015, to meet with students, parents and alumni. In his trip, he will also be visiting fellow universities, corporations and government bodies to enlarge and strengthen Georgia Tech's presence and influence in Asia.On 24 July, Dr. Bras will be in Singapore to meet with fellow alumni, current/incoming students and their parents; and will share updates of Georgia Tech's initiatives on campus and in the region.  Professor Chip White, from Georgia Tech's Supply Chain & Logistics Institute (SCL) will also be sharing updates from SCL. Accompanying Dr. Bras on this trip are representatives from Georgia Tech's Office of Development: Shelton Chan, Managing Director of Development (Asia-Pacific) and Marta Garcia, Associate VP of Development (International). Tickets are also available at the door. About Dr. BrasIn addition to his role as Provost and Executive VP of Academic Affairs, Dr. Bras is also a professor in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. He is the first Tech faculty member to hold the new K. Harrison Brown Family Chair. Dr. Bras, originally from Puerto Rico, has made substantial contributions to the fields of Civil and Environmental Engineering, particularly relating to hydrology and water resources. He maintains an active international consulting practice on hydrology and has worked on projects such as the New Orleans Regional Hurricane Protection and is currently chairing a panel of experts supervising a flood prevention project for Vince, Italy. He is considered a subject matter expert in the larger field of global climate change, and has published two textbooks, more than 180 refereed journal publications and several hundred other publications and presentations. Dr. Bras has received numerous awards and recognition for his work from organizations such as NASA, Drexel, MIT, American Meteorological Society, University of Arizona, American Geophysical Union, University of Hong Kong, National Academy of Arts and Science Puerto Rico, and many others.He served 32 years at MIT as a professor and former head position in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Dr. Bras earned his doctorate of science in Water Resources and Hydrology, bachelors and masters in Civil Engineering at MIT. Driving directionsFrom the east: Take Shenton Way Exit from MCE (Exit 1).
