The next event in our series of Symphonies for Strings champagne concerts, June 17, features music of Carl Maria von Weber.His is one of those whose names we come across in concert programmes from time to time without a very clear idea of who he was, except that he was German, and a composer.Carl Maria von Weber (1786-1826) In Weber’s brief but brilliant life, he led the way to a German tradition of opera, borrowing from Germanic legends and folktales and saturating it with Germanic atmosphere and ideals. He assigned an all-important role to recitativo, and used the orchestra symphonically.
