With the support of our new collaborators, this extended campaign has allowed us to expand on the content of the technical cycle of the circular economy – not only in designing and making things but also in upcycling, repairing, collecting back, repurposing, and developing new materials. We have also added the topics relating to the biological cycles of the circular economy on board this festival to cover topics relating to circular food systems, agriculture, biomimicry, and natural systems. We believe that expanding the content to cover more aspects of the circular economy is important because the circular economy is not closing the loops on individual, stand-alone cycles. Instead, we want to connect these loops in various cycles, much like a sphere rather than a circle, think black holes and fourth dimensions. From an astrophysicist that designs fashion material design, to software engineers designing AI to track the flow of plastic waste in cities, to conservation scientist who inform product design and food production, to social entrepreneur developing leather from soybean waste – there is no boundaries in the potential solutions and collaborations that can occur when people of all backgrounds come together for a common purpose. We hope this festival will add that bit more stimulation to your discussions. To do so, the festival will now have a 5-week online campaign with a selection of articles, interviews, videos, and weekly newsletters prior to the physical events. On the 2-day physical event days, there will be documentary screening, bicara sessions, a variety of workshops and on-loop videos on circular economy featured from DIF 2018 for you to attend, get it because it’s circular?
