At launch, Libra will allow users to make money transfers in local currencies via Facebook’s own Calibra wallet that will function through Whatsapp, Messenger and its own app as well as third-party apps. On top of that, Libra is planned to eventually be accepted as a form of payment, enabling people to easily pay their rent etc. via application. Libra is being developed by Facebook in cooperation with a validator network dubbed “Libra Association”, that includes several venture capital firms, credit card companies and other organizations – among them Uber, Visa, MasterCard, Paypal and eBay. Through the launch of subsidiary company Calibra, Facebook will sell additional products and services based around Libra. Calibra is also said to handle the crypto dealings and warrant users’ privacy by keeping their Facebook data separate from the transactions.
