In the world of architecture, Singapore is no longer a little red dot. We have award-winning architecture and internationally-acclaimed designs, and a rich urban tapestry. This talk showcases the state of Singapore architecture today, 50 years from independence, and discusses the evolving role of the architect, a backbone of the nation’s cityscape and creative industries. Mr Tan Szue Hann, Council Member of the Singapore Institute of Architects, and Principal Architect at Jurong International, will present the overview, take stock of the architecture practice here and elsewhere, and imagine the built landscape 50 years from now. Tan Szue Hann, Sustainable Urban Solutions Studio and JURONG InternationalTan Szue Hann is Deputy Head (Sustainable Urban Solutions Studio) and Principal Architect at JURONG International. He is a Registered Architect with the Board of Architects, Singapore, and a Council Member of the Singapore Institute of Architects. Szue Hann graduated with a Master of Architecture a BA Arch (First Class Honours) from NUS, completing his Masters at UCLA. He was awarded the Lee Kuan Yew Medal, ICI-Dulux Gold Medal, Board of Architects Prize and Architecture Alumni Association Gold Medal on graduation. Szue Hann has been involved in several award-winning building projects, also been an adjunct lecturer at the key architectural institutions in Singapore, and an invited speaker at various conferences, including the BCA International Green Building Conference 2013, the World Architecture Festival 2014 and the Commonwealth Association of Planners Conference 2014.
