Social Change for Climate Change | Peatix tag:peatix.com,2011:1 2021-11-15T10:17:54+08:00 Peatix A Good Space Social Change for Climate Change tag:peatix.com,2019:event-702491 2019-06-08T11:00:00SGT 2019-06-08T11:00:00SGT Can we really tackle climate change without social change? While climate change is a pressing social issue, in Singapore (and perhaps the world), it still seems like an issue separate from the rest of society, one that only climate change advocates, environmentalists and people who refuse plastic utenstils care about. But is it? What social changes do we need to see before we can unite society to care about climate change? Come together with other like-minded social changemakers for an afternoon of ideation and experience sharing, as we draw the connections around what we as a society need to care about more and the relationship that links different social issues to climate change. This session will be facilitated by 3 experienced changemakers from diverse backgrounds: 1. Anthea OngAnthea Ong is a Nominated Member of Parliament and champions mental health, diversity and inclusion — and volunteerism in Parliament. She is also an impact entrepreneur/investor and a passionate mental health advocate, especially in workplace wellbeing. She started WorkWell Leaders Workgroup in May 2018 to bring together top leaders of top employers in Singapore (both public and private) to share, discuss and co-create inclusive practices to promote workplace wellbeing. Anthea is also the founder of Hush TeaBar, Singapore’s 1st silent teabar and a social movement that aims to bring silence, self care and social inclusion into every workplace, every community — with a cup of tea. The Hush Experience is completely led by lovingly-trained Deaf facilitators, supported by a team of Persons with Mental Health Issues (PMHIs).2. Tok XinyingXinying is a co-founder of Climate Conversations and also works as a Sustainability Consultant on issues like Green Finance, Sustainable Cities and Clean Transportation in Asia. In 2017, she was a Fellow at the Climate Strategies Accelerator run by Packard Foundation, Oak Foundation and Good Energies Fund. She has worked on philanthropic strategies to mitigate climate change in China and the U.S. since 2014.3. Barney SwanBarney Swan, 25, became the first person in the world to ski over 600 miles across Antarctica powered solely by renewable energy, eventually reaching the South Pole. Trying to figure out a way for more people to get involved to combat climate change, he established the ClimateForce Challenge, which aims to clean up 360 million tons of CO2 from the atmosphere before 2025. Together with his father Sir Robert Swan, he leads the annual 2041 ClimateForce Leadership on the Edge Antarctica Expedition, which brings together changemakers from all over the world for an expedition to Antarctica to equip them with resources and actionable solutions to become a part of a global force of change.
