10 August 2019, Saturday Esplanade Recital Studio 8.30pm Aaron Golberg (Piano) Matt Penman (Bass) Leon Parker (Drums) John Ellis (Saxophone) Hailed by Down Beat magazine for his “quick-witted harmonic reflexes, fluid command of line and cut-to-the-chase sense of narrative logic,” Aaron Goldberg has made his name worldwide as one of jazz’s mostcompelling pianists, both as a bandleader and frequent collaborator with the finest exponents of the music. As a bandleader Aaron’s passion for swing, melody and groove has long been paired with a keen appreciation of other musical cultures, as documented on his 6 acclaimed trio albums and over 80 more as a co-leader and collaborator. Aaron’s recently released album, “At the Edge of the World” is a new trio project featuring Matt Penman on bass and the dynamic Leon Parker on drums and body/vocal percussion.The trio will be joined by special guest John Ellis, who is widely recognized as one of New York’s premiere tenor saxophone voices. With more than 150 album credits as a sideman, John can be heard with artists as wide ranging as Charlie Hunter, Kendrick Scott Oracle, Darcy James Argue, Dr Lonnie Smith, and Helen Sung. John has released nine albums as a leader, three of those featuring his wildly popular New Orleans-centered band Double-Wide.This performance is a part of the Jazz @ The Red Dot Workshops (JARD) 2019, a four-day jazz program for musicians of all levels, taught by some of the best musicians from NYC.
