This time it's "an off the beaten track" experience  to the Singapore Quarry; see more details below.  Our very experienced and knowledgeable guide (he is an NParks guide as well as STB) will take us through this section of the historic Bukit Timah Nature Reserve. After an approx 2 hour walk, we will go to a nearby cafe for refreshments (included in the price). Please note we will meet at Hillview MRT at 8:30am. More info will be emailed to you a few days before the walk. Background info on the Singapore Quarry: Singapore’s geology is abundant in granite, and quarrying activities began as early as the beginning of the 1900s. In the 1960s to 1970s there were an estimated 20-25 granite quarries supplying much-needed granite to feed the post-independence building and construction boom. The hilly areas around the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve were home to several active granite quarry sites & at the base of the Bukit Timah Hill were 3 granite quarries: Dairy Farm Quarry, Singapore Granite Quarry and Hindhede Quarry. The Singapore Quarry, after a period of rehabilitation allowing vegetation and wildlife to return, recovered enough from the destructive quarrying activities to reopen in 2009 as a freshwater wetland park, complete with a viewing platform.
