Who would be with you? Have you ever had a conversation about your ideal final day?Everything that lives, dies. And yet for many of us, dying is an uncomfortable topic that we avoid thinking and talking about. At End-of-Life Care Association of Japan (ELC), we want to encourage everyone to talk about dying with their family and friends. We understand that having these conversations can be difficult and we all benefit from practice. To provide more opportunities to think about what we want for the end of our lives and to practice expressing our wishes out loud, ELC has started hosting Death Over Dinner* events. We are fortunate to have met Joji INOUE, the chief priest of Shodaiji Temple, who shares our interest in outreach and facilitating important conversations. His Tegami-dera space in Ginza supports contemplation and learning. It is not a temple, and so people from non-Buddhist backgrounds can feel comfortable entering. We hope that you will join us for a Death Over Dinner here.ELC Death Over Dinner events are open to people of all ages and backgrounds. Tourists and temporary visitors to Japan are welcome. We do ask that you come with an attitude of respect for others. Basic communication ability in Japanese or English is necessary.* Death Over Dinner is a cultural change movement that started in the United States. The founders were moved to start more conversations about dying after they learned that 75% of Americans want to die at home, yet only 25% of them do.
