As we celebrate the rich biodiversity Mother Nature has, we pause to reflect upon humanity's relationship with Nature. We aim to go a little bit wild and experimental with our format. We're going to mix elements from our popular TECH TARIK panel series focused on knowledge sharing, with our Visionarium exchanges focused on sensemaking. Ibnur Rashad, a serial inventor who was part of a movement to help secure the world's first shark sanctuary while in Silicon Valley,and more joining us to share insights and perspectives from the ground. Interestingly also, this year in 2019, World Wildlife Day will be celebrated under the theme “Life below water: for people and planet", which aligns with Goal 14 of UN Sustainable Development Goals. Discourses for the GUILDHALL however go beyond marine life to also include Goal 15: Life on Land.FUTURES THINKING. We have prepared and selected a few tools used by global consultants we feel could stretch our minds to cross-examine Wildlife Matters a bit better, and challenge certain assumptions. Given the insights and readiness from those present, we shall see how broad, how deep and how far we could go into examining Wildlife Matters. We do have cups and glasses that you can use at our venue.About World Wildlife DayOn 20 December 2013, at its 68th session, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) proclaimed 3 March, the day of signature of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), as UN World Wildlife Day to celebrate and raise awareness of the world’s wild animals and plants. The UNGA Resolution also designated the CITES Secretariat as the facilitator for the global observance of this special day for wildlife on the UN calendar. World Wildlife Day has now become the most important global annual event dedicated to wildlife.FAQs1. I am new to wildlife matters. Would I be able to understand what would be shared?Those who would be sharing their knowledge with their presentations have been encouraged to explain any technical terms they use such that non-technical citizens who are not familiar with the sector could understand the key message being delivered. Based on previous sessions, those coming from outside sectors have added valuable insights and contributed much to the discourse. So, you'll definitely qualify!2. I blog a lot. Do you allow journalists, writers and bloggers to attend and write about the session?For GUILDHALL, we don't follow Chatham House rules in full, where anonymity is valued. We value authenticity more. Everyone comes in first and foremost as a citizen and we believe that you have the right to share what you experience truthfully and responsibly. If you come across a good insight and would like to mention it in your writings, it would be nice to also credit and acknowledge the source/contributor :)3. Will there be another GUILDHALL session on Wildlife?Each GUILDHALL only happens once in terms of content, format and tools, because curation for each is optimised for relevance to the topic. Each has a different focus and theme, and hence would attract different stakeholders, enthusiasts and advocates. Our previous GUILDHALL was on 'Fake News, Creative Democracy & Technology of Trust'.4. What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?Social Collider is within walking distance from one-north MRT, Fusionopolis, TIMBRE+, BLOCK71 and JTC Launchpad. If you're driving, you may park at the nearby open-air carpark or at the parking lots in buildings around one-north MRT. And yes, there are multiple food options around.5. Will there be food and refreshment provided at venue?As shared above, we're keeping our operations lean for GUILDHALL and has adopted potluck format. Beyond helping innovators, we fundraise for ground-up initiatives and support projects around Singapore, including the further development of a community innovation lab in 2019 where you too can also start building the ideas you always had in mind while giving back to society and the environment, in line with the 2030 UN Sustainable Development Goals.Since 2016, our funds and resources have gone into supporting the 26,000sqm Kampung Kampus (Singapore's first ecovillage campus by Ground-Up Initiative), provision of educational programmes to disadvantaged children at LIFE (Literacy Initiative For Equity) and Fei Yue Family Service Centre, corporate CSR experiences with HP and APSN (Association for Persons with Special Needs), family bonding activities at the Istana with Science Centre, global conservation efforts by World Wildlife Fund and many more.
