The Singapore Society of Cinematographers (SGSC) presents an intimate conversation with Hideho Urata (A Land Imagined) as part of their Conversations with Cinematographers series.
In this moderated session recommended for cinematographers and those with an interest in cinematography, Hideho will cover the following (and more) with reference to A Land Imagined:
His pre-production process
How location plays a part in his creative process
How he creates a conducive environment for actors
How he gets to know the director, cast and crew and how he works with them on set
Analysis and discussion of selected scenes from the film
The 1.5h session will be followed by a half hour Q&A session.

About Hideho Urata:Originally from Japan, Hideho Urata is a Singapore-based cinematographer and senior cinematography lecturer at LASALLE College of the Arts (Puttnam School of Film and Animation).
A graduate of New York University, Hideho began his career in the United States. Kamataki, a feature film he lensed, won five awards at the 2005 Montréal World Film Festival, and the Crystal Bear-Spedcial Mention the 2006 Berlin International Film Festival. In 2009, he won Best Cinematography at Montreal's Fantasia International Film Festival and Best Visual Achievement at the New York Asian Film Festival for his work on The Clone Returns Home.
Hideho has collaborated with many Singaporean filmmakers. His most recent collaborationw with Yeo Siew Hua, A Land Imagined, won the Golden Leopard at the 2018 Locarno International Film Festival and Best Asian Feature at the 2018 Singapore International Film Festival.
On a personal level, Hideho has won awards for Best Cinematography at the Valladolid International Film Festival and Achievement in Cinematography at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards.
