One evening with French and Korean art songs and another with Opera Arias.Music of Pauline Viardot, Isang Yun, Léo Delibes, Erik Satie, Francis Poulenc...And of Donizetti, Verdi, Puccini, Strauss, Gounod, Bernstein...Presenting two entirely different programmes for the two evenings this March 7 and 8, the two performers invite you on their musical journey with two very versaitile instruments, voice and piano, .The first evening, Thursday March 7th's programme comprises of art songs in four segments; 1st, Art of Pauline Viardot. 2nd, Cabaret & Theatre. 3rd, Korea; tradition and modernism. 4th, Andalusia, French interpretation. On the second day Friday March 8, the opera aria evening will explore two contrasting portrayals of operatic heroines; victims vs victors. Elena and Sérine met in Barcelona, Spain in 2004. Since then, their lives have crossed one another's path in cities and towns of Italy, France, South Korea, and finally, Singapore. Their friendship and musicianship fueled by their unfading love for music made their numerous collaborations possible, including many impromptu appearances such as these recitals. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQf85GM7RbUhttp://www.esplanade.com/events/2019/2-evenings-2-womenSoprano Sérine de Labaume began her musical training at the age of 4 with the violin and studied voice with Mireille Alcantara in Paris, with Jenny Anvelt in Milan and Rivka Or in Aachen. The Belgian Baritone Jose Van Dam described her voice as 'natural and agile'and the American conductor John Nelson complimented her on her 'graceful' presentation. The Catalan Tenor Jaume Aragall and the American pianist Dalton Baldwin also praised her musicality and expressive stage presence.Mainly appearing in France, Belgium, Spain, Italy, South Korea and Singapore, Sérine has also sung in Germany, Finland, Sweden and Japan. An accomplished visual artist, she has Bachelor’s degree in Studio Art and Master’s Degree in Environmental Art from New York University. She works with mixed media and has exhibited her work through solo as well as group shows in the USA, Italy, France, South Korea and Singapore.Pianist Dr. Elena Soonki Kim graduated from Chongshin University with a bachelor’s degree and earned her master’s and doctorate degree at the Milan’s Verdi National Conservatory of Music where she majored in Piano and Chamber Music. The 1st prize winner of Camilo Togni International Competition, PremioGalbiati, Premio Beltrammi,  Lions Club Scholarship Competition, and Contemporary Music Competition, she has since worked as the official pianist of numerous competitions such as Bilbao International Competition, Brescia International Vocal Competition, Capriolo International Vocal Competition, Tebaldi International Vocal Competition, Mantinelli Pertile International Vocal Competition, Víñas International Vocal Competition, Aragall International Vocal Competition and Seoul International Competition. Having been faculty at the voice department of the Verdi National Conservatory of Milan and the Seoul National University of Korea, she continues to teach many promising young talents. She has performed extensively in recitals as well as concert version opera productions; Pagliacci, Cavalleria Rusticana, Rigoletto and Le nozze di Figaro organised by Milan International Opera Group to name a few. The renowned singers she has worked with include Eugenia Anvelt, Renata scotto, BonaldoGiaiotti, Philip Gang,  Giuseppe Giacomini and Jaume Aragall. Her notable recordings include Don Quichiotte (Ibert & Ravel), Romances of Rachmaninov & Tachikovsky and Brhams’s Liebes lieder waltz (Stradivarius-Cons. Milano). She began her conducting career debuting with Don Pasquale in 2017, and oversaw the world premiere of Opera “1953” as the musical coach. This is her second visit to Singapore; the first being the 2018’s recital “Amour” with Serine de Labaume at the Esplanade Recital Studio.
