Ten years after finishing his stint in the military, Kelvin Kyung Kun Park returns to the barracks to document the experience of serving in the army from the eyes of Woochul, their latest recruit. The film quietly observes Woochul’s stoic struggle to adapt to life in the military, while the filmmaker recounts his own memories of soldiering. What emerges is a portrait that looks deep into the psyche of collectivism and national identity, and their impact on the individual. He has screened his highly acclaimed first feature-length film Cheonggyecheon Medley (2010), at various international venues, including the Berlin Film Festival, Busan International Film Festival, and Hot Docs, among others. Park’s video installation works have been shown at the Ilmin Museum of Art in Seoul and Daegu Art Museum, Arko Art Gallery, Opsis Art Gallery, and the 2012 Taipei Biennale. Park followed his debut with A Dream of Iron, which debuted at the Berlin International Film Festival. The film won the NETPAC Award at Berlinale and subsequently played at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and at the Sharjah Bienniale. Army, his latest film, premiered at Busan International Film Festival, where it won the Mecenat Award.  About Loo Zihan:Loo Zihan is an artist and academic from Singapore working at the intersections of critical theory, performance, and the moving-image. He received his Masters of Fine Arts in Studio Practice from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a Masters in Performance Studies from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.His work emphasises the malleability of memory through various representational strategies that include performance re-enactments and essay films.
