Geylang conjures up an image of a red-light district, which indeed it is. But it’s so much more than brothels and cheap eats. Scratch the surface and you'll find a wonderful ethnic mélange with a dominant Chinese character. Today’s Geylang is home to numerous Chinese religious associations and temples, and also a mosque named after a female benefactor, plus churches and a Hindu temple.
