But it’s so much more than brothels and cheap eats. Scratch the surface and you'll find a wonderful ethnic mélange with a dominant Chinese character. Today’s Geylang is home to numerous Chinese religious associations and temples, and also a mosque named after a female benefactor, plus churches and a Hindu temple. Come walk the streets with us to learn its many secrets, including which lorongs (lanes) are "respectable" and which are not! We will visit some beautiful homes, a traditional Chinese instruments shop and a medical hall, and further, we’ll delight in best examples of “Chinese Baroque” architecture with the lavish use of tiles and ornate plasterwork. Along the way, we’ll discover many other hidden facets of Geylang, an under-rated and misunderstood gem!
