Join us in this session with art therapists, a craft facilitator, dementia campaign administrator and museum professional to discuss the use of art therapy in museums, and how the arts can make an impact on the wellbeing of those living with dementia. Learn about the construction of memory boxes for this project, and how this process has connected the elders with their families through the sharing of personal stories. Participants will also get a chance to experience making their own memory box after the forum.ModeratorDr Edmund Chow is an applied theatre practitioner who has worked in prisons, schools, universities, war zones, and hospitals. With scholarships from NAC, Edmund received his Master's from NYU and Ph.D from the University of Manchester. He is now the Programme Leader of MA Arts Pedagogy and Practice at LASALLE. SpeakersWith over a decade of experience as a Craft Facilitator, Catherine Chong was the founder of Homespun, a social enterprise art retail shop that houses locally designed products. Having a keen interest in up-cycled arts, she is also a Co-Instructor for the Recycled Arts Toolkit workshop for HPB Health Ambassadors and at the Social Service Institute. As one of the Craft Facilitators at the Arts & Dementia programme in Alzheimer’s Disease Association for more than two years, Catherine’s experience in working with persons living with dementia is undeniable.Daniel Wong is an art therapist and researches on the intersection between the arts, health and wellbeing. He has a particular interest in art therapy in social spaces and the development of clinical as well as artistic models of intervention. He teaches on the MA Art Therapy Programme at LASALLE.Ivan Loh is the Campaign Administrator of Forget Us Not Campaign. He was trained in eldercare and has special interest in dementia, due to personal experiences within his extended family. He was attached to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (Geriatrics Clinic) for 8 months, working with a team of dedicated healthcare professionals supporting persons with dementia and their families. As part of his current work, he gives talks to different organisations to raise awareness about dementia. Kelly Reedy is an art therapist who believes in using the power of museums to promote community engagement and mental wellbeing. She has developed museum-based workshops in Singapore for over 16 years. She currently teaches part-time at LASALLE College of the Arts, MA Art Therapy programme and offers private art therapy consultations through ArtWorks.As Deputy Director of the National Museum, Wong Hong Suen leads the Curatorial, Learning and Programmes divisions that look after collections and exhibition, research and publication as well as programmes for audience engagement and accessibility. She has driven several access and inter-generational initiatives at the National Museum that seek to strengthen the museum’s reach to audiences for social engagement, health and well-being.Photographs and/or video will be taken at today's event.
