Or have heard religious leaders speak, but are keen to hear from a common man/woman about their intimate thoughts, challenges and hopes about their faith? Then fret not, as this is just the session for you, ask our panellists any questions concerning faith (respectfully of course), as they share their stories. Or engage in some friendly banter with fellow participants. Together, we shall put on our thinking caps and explore the intricacies that exist in our practice and beliefs held concerning faiths. The session will be conducted in small break-out groups for an intimate experience, our storytellers will rotate amongst the groups and bring you on their stories. It's gonna be an interfaith experience you would not want to miss. Rest assured on 16 Feb, when you attend this session, A Good Space, will also serve as A Safe Space, where there can be a frank exchange of ideas and views. If there is anything, we hope that you will take away from this session, it's that as each of your arrive with perceptions of what your own world of faith is...be it My World or Your World,... at the end of the day... This is Our World.Meet Our StorytellersRev Dr William Wan -- "A Man of Faith"Rev Dr William Wan is the General Secretary of the Singapore Kindness Movement and a Justice of the Peace. He also chairs the Prison Fellowship Singapore and the Ethics Committee of the Farrer Park Hospital, and serves his church as the Pastor Emeritus (Hope Presbyterian). A regular contributor to the Straits Times Opinion Page, he is a published author of several books and a regular speaker at churches, conferences and public events. His latest book is Through the Valley: The Art of Living and Leaving Well. He is also active on several boards of Christian and non-profit organisations, including the Bible Society, Singapore Bible College, the Singapore Scout Association and the Public Hygiene Council.Natalie Chai -- "The Millenial Organic Farmer”Natalie Chai is one of three children in her family of organic farmers. Long before “organic” was a buzzword, her parents decided to dedicate their blood, sweat and tears to growing produce that they could eat with “peace of mind”, and share them with the world beyond their family. That was 22 years ago, and they’ve never looked back since. As Buddhist farmers, organic farming has transcended beyond menus and lifestyle; it has become a practice in compassion and wisdom. Apart from helping out with the family business at Fire Flies Health Farm, you can also find her and her jovial laughter behind the stalls of “Thunder Tree” serving up bowls of homely Hakka food. She is a curious soul who seeks out authentic experiences in her travels and a practitioner who is learning what it means to practice her beliefs.Huda Lee -- "A Student, A Mother"Huda Lee draws herself from numerous identities. She grew up in a world where she finds herself lovingly cared for by a Chinese Taoist grandma reminding her to do her 5 daily prayers and ensures that her food is halal. She also identifies herself as muslim in her spiritual faith but very “Ah Lian” in her ways. Through the years, Huda Lee finds herself explaining to curious people who she is and what she believes in. While she tries to figure herself out, she is mainly a social work student and a solo parent of a boy who is considered “Others” in the CMIO model. She also co-manages “Tampines Playdate”, a diverse and inclusive community play-group for women and children. As much as her life seems complicated, her faith and personal experiences colour her world and she is able to craft her own journey.Prof Bruce LockhartProfessor Bruce lockhart’s teaching and research focus on the countries of mainland Southeast Asia, particularly Vietnam, Thailand, and Laos--being the three places he’s lived in before moving to Singapore. He has been especially interested in the topic of kings and monarchy, but he is now spending more and more time thinking about how these countries perceive and write their own history as well. He has published a book on the last Vietnamese ruler: The End of The Vietnamese Monarchy (Yale Council on Southeast Asian Studies, 1993) and completed a manuscript on constitutional monarchy in Thailand. His big long-term project is to write a textbook history of Vietnam which will enable readers (like NUS students, for example) to learn as much as they want about my favorite country without falling asleep over the pages. One of his approaches to teaching is to emphasize the "story" in "history", and he tries to include as many good historical anecdotes as possible in his lectures and writing. As for his life in Singapore, it is basically focused on his students, his books, his church, and his cats.About Roses of PeaceStarted in 2012, Roses of Peace (ROP) is a ground up, youth-driven initiative that seeks to bridge the gap in interfaith discourse by connecting faith, service and diversity to empower youth to be change leaders and peace ambassadors. At ROP, we believe that diversity in faith is a strength and can serve a bridge for deeper cooperation, especially in the context of Singapore’s multi-religious, multi-racial and multi-cultural society, by fostering cooperation through the common good. About A Good SpaceThis event is co-hosted with A Good Space – where changemakers flourish as a community to imagine and create experiences that expand perspectives across diverse social issues. From Poverty Simulations to a Feast with Seniors, come learn about a wide range of social issues through innovative activities.
