The quartet will perform beautiful and complex works by Giacomo Puccini, Maurice Ravel and Igor Stravinsky, alongside an original composition by Singaporean musician David Loke, one of the performers of the evening. In line with the club's support of female empowerment, the string quartet will also perform a selection of pieces by Hildegard von Bingen, a German abbess, mystic and polymath."The Eccentrics"3 Pieces for String Quartet by Igor StravinskyCrisantemi by Giacomo Puccini Selections from 3 Antiphons by Hildegard von BingenSelections from String Quartet in F Major by Maurice Ravel An original composition and an arrangement by David LokeThe programme will be paired with delicious canapés inspired by the works, brought to you by 1880's Executive Chef Colin Buchan, (one-time private chef to Posh and Becks, alongside a slew of accomplishments including stints at Michelin-starred kitchens such as Marco Pierre White’s L’Escargot and Andrew Fairlie’s One Devonshire Gardens). Yang has performed in Asia, North America, Europe, and Australasia—at venues ranging from Museo del Violino Antonio Stradivari in Cremona to Esplanade Concert Hall in his hometown. Concerto credits include appearances with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Singapore National Youth Orchestra, NUS Chinese Orchestra, and The Chamber Players. He has also been featured in prominent festivals such as the Perlman Music Program, Chautauqua Institution, and Macao Arts Festival. Yang is a prizewinner at several international music competitions, and was honoured as a President’s Young Performer in 2012. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at New England Conservatory (USA).David Loke (Violin 2)"David Loke is considered to be a pretty amazing violinist, but he is better known for his awesome sense of humour, though some may say otherwise. David is an extremely versatile musician and enjoys playing many genres of music. If you’d like to know exactly which genres he frequents, do ask him directly; he's very friendly and approachable, and he won't bite. Not like the dog that bit him when he was 5. But since you asked, Classical, Jazz and Pop are his 3 top genres. David has had the good fortune of studying with Sylvia Khoo, Lynette Lim, Qian Zhou, Ani Kavafian, Tony Makarome, Can Olgun, Hankus Netsky, Frank Carlburg, Jerry Bergonzi & Brian Levy. When not playing music, he enjoys sleeping, eating and occasionally long walks on the beach."Martin Peh (Viola)Martin began playing the violin under Kang Choon Sim and continued his studies in America at the Idyllwild Arts Academy under Todor Pelev. He studied under Keng-Yuen Tseng at the Peabody Institute of Music in Spring 2015 and also with T’ang Quartet violinist, Ng Yu Ying and Alexander Souptel at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music before graduating in 2016 to attend the Yale school of music studying under Hyo Kang for two years. He is currently a Doctor of Musical Arts candidate for violin performance at Stonybrook University.Leslie Tan (Cello)Leslie Tan, a founding member of the T'ang Quartet (Singapore's premier string quartet), has performed to critical acclaim in major venues and festivals worldwide. In a career that has spanned 35 years, ranging from orchestral to chamber and solo concerts; from contemporary and cross-disciplinary works to historically informed performances, Leslie is sought after both as a pedagogue and concert artiste. A graduate of the Trinity College of Music in London, Leslie Tan went on to the Tchaikovsky-Moscow State Conservatory as a graduate-assistant of Natalia Shahkovskaya. In the USA, he was a pupil of Paul Katz and Norman Fischer. Leslie is very active in outreach activities, and musical education in countries in the ASEAN region, teaching in different festivals and projects in Thailand and Myanmar.  In Indonesia he works quite frequently with students from Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya. Leslie Tan was on the faculty of the Boston University Tanglewood Institute from 2000 - 2004; and in 2003, was appointed to the faculty of the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music.Wines for the event are generously supported by New Zealand Unlimited. Peatix is Music and Makan's official ticketing partner.
