These 4 x 2-hour sessions will take you through the initial steps of becoming a stand-up comedian and culminate with you performing a 3-minute comedy routine.The course is aimed at first-timers but is also useful for novices and anyone who wants to improve their public speaking and stage presence.Session 1 - Wed 14th Nov. 8pm- Intro to character, structure and style- Outline your first funny story / jokeSession 2 - Wed 21st Nov. 8pm- Learn how to use the stage – stagecraft and microphone technique- Develop your story / joke- Overlay with the skills you have learned so farSession 3 - Wed 28th Nov. 8pm- Stage persona/character development- Review of skills and how to use them effectively- Q&A with guest professional comedian- Warm-up, breathing and voice techniquesSession 4 - Wed 5th Dec- Final edits of your 3-minute routine- Practice- Practice- PracticeGraduation Performance - Thu 6th Dec- A show for you and your graduating alumni to perform at The Merry Lion in front of family, friends, colleagues and the public.PLUS a free handy ‘comedy jargon’ busting glossary to take away AND free entry to one of the International Headliner Shows at The Merry Lion (see the best at work).Who is the facilitator?Scott Mitchell has performed in Singapore, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Philippines, Taiwan, Myanmar and the United Kingdom. Recently, as part of Fringeworld, Perth Australia, he was a finalist in the ‘Best Show’ category. He has also provided support on stage for Russel Howard, Stuart Goldsmith, Brendon Burns and many more.Scott was born and raised in Scotland and moved to Singapore in 2004. To date, Scott has organised more than 500 stand-up shows in Singapore and has been involved with the Magners International Comedy Festival, Comedy Central Asia and Beerfest Asia as well as many corporate and private performances.“I love stand-up comedy and was a fan long before I ever stepped on stage. Watching new comedians make people laugh is one of the best things in the world” - Scott MitchellSome additional notes for you:What should you bring?Pens, pencils, notepad and if possible, a sense of humour (not compulsory – some of the funniest comedians in the world are the grimmest people you will ever meet off stage).What time can I be there?Doors will open at 15 minutes before class is due to start (usually earlier). Note: No outside food is allowed. Drinks can be bought in the bar. There is lots of water in the tap.What if I miss a session?We will do our best to get you into one of our other sessions with one of the other groups. Best advice is not to miss one if at all possible.Do I need to perform at the graduation?We never force anyone to perform.
