IET Technical Talk on Data Security and Reliability hosted by Petrosains will touch on this topic and we will take a step further in looking at energy storage advancement through fabrication of supercapacitors in securing the reliability of our power hungry smart devices. Speakers:Gilles LoridonCEO, Global Security Network BIO:MSc in Computer Science from French IT Engineering school, IIE, Gilles has worked as IT Consultant for more than 24 years and in the Cyber Security field for more than 19 years. Gilles started his career in 1994 as a Military Engineer for the CEA, in the Nuclear Emergency Response Team. In 1995, Gilles was designing, developing and implementing an Industrial Control System to manage the robots of the main warehouse of a leading cloth store chain. In 1997, he moved to the USA and worked for the US government as a project leader for the development of innovative Economic Intelligence System. In 1999, Gilles joined the European Leader in Economic Intelligence, CEIS, as a Project Leader and later, took the leadership of its Middle East Branch. During the last 19 years as CEO of Global Security Network, he has been leading and implementing successful cyber security projects for governmental Agencies, Critical infrastructure companies and Military Departments in Europe, Africa, as well as in the Middle East. CONTENT:Latest ICS Cyber-attacks Analysis and Counter MeasuresThe goal of this presentation is to analyse the steps of a classical ICS Cyber Attack on a Critical Infrastructure company and to explore possible counter-measures. In the first part of the presentation, we will watch a video of a realistic cyber-attack on an Oil & Gas company IT and ICS network. After watching the video, we will look at the different phases of the attack and the vulnerabilities exploited to cripple the ICS. In the second part of the presentation, we will introduce the concept of Defence In Depth, why it is critical and how most Cyber Security architecture do not have Defence In Depth. In the third parts will explore a possible Defence In Depth architecture with different counter-measures such as the data diode, ICS network passive monitoring, Mobile Device management, among others. Finally, we will look at Standards and Regulation, to propose references to go further on ICS Cyber Security. Ir. Dr. Ng Kok ChiangDirector, MYBIG Sdn. Bhd. and Leong Hing Electrical Engineering Sdn. Bhd.BIO:Doctor of Philosophy in "Advanced Carbon Nanotube Nanocomposites for Asymmetrical Supercapacitor Applications” from University of Nottingham, UK. As a Chartered Engineer, he has also attained Bachelor of Engineering and Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Western Australia. Dr. Ng is currently the Director at MYBIG Sdn. Bhd. and Leong Hing Electrical Engineering Sdn. Bhd. Prior to this, he has worked as technical consultant at various firms including for Renewable Energy EO.N on Nano-Supercapacitor. He is currently the council member of TEEAM and also the Industrial Board Member of the Heriot Watt University, Malaysia and the Nottingham University, Malaysia.CONTENT:Nanocomposites for the Fabrication of the Electrodes for SupercapacitorsEnergy efficient and robust power devices are the keys to overcoming the challenges of daunting climate change and the depletion of the earth’s fossil fuels. As a result of an extensively diversified and globalised energy market, electrochemical capacitors, which are also known as supercapacitors, are becoming one of the vital energy-storage devices of the 21st century. This is because electrochemical capacitors, bridge the crucial performance disparity between high energy density fuel cells or batteries and high power density traditional capacitors. However, in terms of engineering related issues at the micro level, the major area urgently require attention is the development of new nanocomposites materials. This session will discuss the characteristics of novel nanocomposites which combine both ion adsorptions (interfacial capacitance) and fast redox reactions (pseudo-capacitance) for energy storage. Established by PETRONAS, Petrosains has reached millions across the nation, giving back to the community in the informal learning of science and helping to produce scientifically literate citizens and critical thinkers in the nation. In collaboration with: The IET is one of the world’s largest engineering institutions with over 168,000 members in 150 countries. It is also the most multidisciplinary – to reflect the increasingly diverse nature of engineering in the 21st century. The IET is working to engineer a better world by inspiring, informing and influencing our members, engineers and technicians, and all those who are touched by, or touch, the work of engineers.IET Malaysia Local Network works closely with other local engineering institutions in organizing activities as well as to promote science, engineering and technology in Malaysia. With more than 1,500 members located in Peninsular and East Malaysia, the Malaysia Local Network has encouraged the formation of On Campus in Public and Private Universities. These On Campuses are mentored by the Young Professional Section (YPS) of IET. As of December 2016, IET Malaysia Local Network has a total of 10 active On Campuses.
