Not all students are equipped with the skills to meet the many demands on their time. The multiple commitments of secondary school life, when not well-managed, add to the anxiety and stress which are part and parcel of the teen years. In New Horizons, students will learn skills to cope with the changes ahead, develop their strengths, manage their time and reduce stress. Course Outline•Self Esteem and Self Compassion games and exercises•Learning to value self and understanding how values-based action can motivate for future success•Identifying and managing stress – learning strategies to cope (mindfulness)•Tools to help with communication at home and school•Importance of organisational skills – making the change from 4 subjects to 8 or 9•Identifying strengths and using these to enhance future performance•Social and Emotional Skills – including strategies for making new friends•Understanding how our mind works•Reflection and review(Please note that although it says 26th November 2018 as the date - the ticket price is for 4 days from 4.00pm to 5.30pm from 26th to 29th November). She implemented mindfulness and organisational strategies in her classes in school and found that it made a remarkable difference to her students’ ability to focus and perform. She also conducts seminars for educators, parents and students in both the international and local school systems (e.g. CHIJ, Australian International School, German European school, Raffles Girls School, Raffles Christian School Jakarta), and runs training programmes and workshops for adults and children where she has come to appreciate the importance of teaching the life skills of resilience and stress management. Her corporate work includes training for companies such as BHP Billiton, Schneider Electric, Factset Research Systems, Breast Cancer Foundation, Financial Women’s Association, RV Capital, AWWA among others. Mallika has also done workshops on parenting for the Tampines Peoples Association (PA) and Punggol PA, where she was given a certificate of appreciation for her talk by Minister of Education (Schools) Ng Chee Meng. Mallika has a B.A. from the University of Exeter and a B. Primary Education from Charles Sturt University. She has completed several professional mindfulness courses, including the Mindful Schools Curriculum Educator Course, Mindfulness for difficult emotions and Mindful Communication. Mallika has also studied Acceptance and Commitment Training, a mindfulness-based programme. She believes that organising time, developing strengths and learning how to increase attention and awareness through a focused programme can bring greater peace of mind, reduce stress, improve concentration and ultimately lead to happier students, schools and homes.
