From the perspective of safety and a comfortable living environment as well as reduction of country risk, Japan provides an attractive base for expansion into Asia for companies of all sizes. Moreover, while Japan, with its large IT-literate population that is highly receptive to new information and its well-developed communications infrastructure, is grappling with issues unique to developed countries, such as an aging society with a low birth rate, it nonetheless has an extremely favorable investment environment that allows foreign small and medium-sized businesses and individuals to start businesses in Japan with various entity forms, including venture companies.   At the same time, when a company launches a business or expands its business in a country other than its home country, along with country risk, the crucial issue is the laws and conflict resolution system of that country. If there are any problems with local contracts or obtaining governmental approvals, you may suffer subsequent, unforeseen damages, which, in some cases, may necessitate pulling out.It is important to understand Japan’s legal system for a smooth start of business expansion in Japan and continuous development, while reducing risks as much as possible. For this reason, Storia Law Office will present a series of seminars about “Issues for Business Expansion to Japan”, including this initial seminar, for foreign nationals and foreign companies planning to expand their businesses to Japan as well as foreign companies and foreign nationals already engaged in business in Japan. In this first seminar of the series, we will discuss how to start business expansion in Japan and what points should be checked from a legal perspective. We will also touch on the hot topic of certain recent amendments to Japanese laws which are advantageous to the development of AI in Japan.  Finally, since Japanese local governments are focusing on attracting foreign companies and preferential incentive programs have been created in each prefecture and city in Japan for foreign companies, we will also introduce the incentive programs of Kobe City in Hyogo Prefecture in this seminar.
