Through a series of short talks by young architects, explore how design can not only coexist but also enhance and aid our larger urban environments. The Kampong House is a traditional Malay house that has been the model of inspiration for many design projects, mostly implicitly rather than explicitly. Speakers will be sharing on some of the principles that can be extracted from the classic Kampong House typology, which seems to be ever-relevant especially in a developed society. Chaw Chih Wen - Hyphen ArchitectsCalvin Chua - Spatial AnatomyFelicia Toh - Quarters ArchitectsHOW TO REFURBISH A SHOPHOUSE | 3pm – 4pmDesign for Time promotes design solutions that are long-lasting and forward-thinking. Shophouses are examples of buildings that are meant to be preserved for the long haul, yet cannot be expected to remain unchanged. Similarly, buildings which have changed in usage over time require extra effort to maintain their integrity, especially if the change is drastic. Take part in a series of short talks that address how young architects and designers can plan for future generations and create spaces and buildings that evolve and adapt over time. Austen Chan & Wu Huei Siang - WASAA Architects & AssociatesJoseph Lee - Bhatch ArchitectsTHE CURIOUS CASE OF POTTED PLANTS IN HDB | 4pm – 5pmDesign for People addresses various design challenges through a larger lens of human-centric considerations.
