Looking for something outdoor-ish and nature-istic this Halloween? Join us on a spooktacular evening trail at Mount Vernon Columbarium for an educational tour as we explore the place and the nocturnal animals there. Ideal for families with teenage kids and groups of friends!The plot of land which the sanctuary is currently occupying now used to hold the Mount Vernon Crematorium. It was opened in 1962 and is the first state run crematorium in singapore to handle cremations. Operations has ceased since 30 June 2004 and current cremations are done over at Mandai Crematorium and Columbarium Complex. The columbarium will be relocated and will make way for the Bidadari Estate announced by Housing & Development Board. The complex used to house the government-managed crematorium until it moved to Mandai in 2004. It has 6 halls to hold wakes and is also home to more than 20000 niches stored in the columbarium blocks.
