In this part of the world, these tiles are most notably linked to the people of the Peranakan descent - so much so, when faced with pictures such tiles, or these actual tiles themselves, many in Singapore would refer to them as "Peranakan" tiles.  Bukit Brown is a unique place, for in its time, it was the one municipal cemetery in which there are many graves, spanning time-periods,  beautifully decorated with these tiles.Join Victor Lim (the tile expert) and Jonathan on a walk through the cemetery where they will focus on the various tiles used in the tomb designs.  Learn about how they were made, and what makes those colours vibrant even until today.  Learn where the tiles come from - and how over time they were sourced from different places.  Learn of the influences that went into the various tiles that are found here in Bukit Brown, how we went to taking what the West designed, to having Asian motifs appear on tiles for the Asian market. If you love decorative tiles - this is a walk you shouldn't miss!Meeting Point: Meeting Point B (platform at hill 1, via block 1, 3 &4 entrance road).
