Ever wondered what barriers women face at home, in the workplace, or anywhere else? What kind of discrimination, pressures and career choices are out there, here in Singapore? How much of a meritocracy are we? This edition of SYC Speak features 4 incredible panelists to discuss the barriers they faced, and how they broke through the glass ceiling to achieve success. They are: 1. Sharul Channa: Stand-up comedianSharul is Singapore’s only full-time female stand-up comedian, and one of the most well-known stand-up comics in Singapore and Malaysia. In 2016, she was the comedian-host of Comedy Zone Asia at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Australia’s biggest annual comedy festival. She was the first Singaporean act chosen to tour with the festival for their Western Australia and Asian roadshows. 2. Brenda Han: Managing Partner, Ogilvy & Mather Brenda Han is a founding member of MeWeWPP, the diversity and inclusion initiative across 26 WPP companies in Singapore, impacting 3,800 employees. Gender equality and raising people's potential are areas of passion for her. She was also named one of Campaign Asia's top 40 Women to Watch in 2018.  3. Rahayu Mahzam: Member of Parliament, Jurong GRCRahayu Mahzam is an Associate Director at Heng, Leong and Srinivasan LLC. She currently serves the residents of Bukit Batok East as their MP. She is passionate about social and community issues, including women, youth and people with special needs.  4. Natalie Morris-Sharma: Director at the Ministry of Law.  Natalie was formerly Singapore’s first legal advisor in the Permanent Mission of Singapore to the United Nations (UN) in New York. She has been involved in the conclusion of several treaties, including the new Singapore Convention on Mediation, which is the first UN treaty to be named after Singapore. Natalie graduated from the University of Cambridge and NYU School of Law. This event is presented by the SINDA Youth Club (SYC), a semi-autonomous organisation that engages Indian youth aged between 17 to 35 and aims to mould leaders of the next generation. Over the last 7 years, SYC has reached out to over 2,000 youth. We believe in empowering our youth through various initiatives to assist them to identify and act on the aspirations of the community and the nation. As one of the key initiatives steered by SYC, SYC Speak has been organised annually since 2010, and is a platform for youth to engage in insightful conversations with our country’s leaders and renowned persons. This event is supported by the Eurasian Association, Inspirit by the National Youth Corps, Mendaki Club, Mentpro by the Singapore Gujurati Society, and the Young Sikh Association.  Light refreshments will be served.
