Hear about bee biodiversity in Singapore and beekeeping from bee lovers at our upcoming session of Green Drinks. This month, we have three speakers - nature photographer, Zestin Soh, John Chong of Bee Amazed Garden, and Lesster Leow of the Association of Beekeepers (Singapore). Zestin will delight us with a presentation of captivating photos of bees he has encountered locally, while John will introduce his bee education centre to us, and Lesster will share about his experience in Africa and the newly established Association of Beekeepers in Singapore. These talks will be followed by a panel discussion - ask these experts anything your heart desires about our local bees. Admission is free. His teaching career began in Yung An Primary School in 1979. He was among the pioneers who started the Science Room and Science Garden in the primary schools.In 1991, he was among the 9 pioneer Singaporean teachers who started the one and only Singapore school outside Singapore, the Singapore International School (Hong Kong), and served in Hong Kong from 1991 to 1999 as the Head of PhysicalEducation Department.Upon his return to Singapore, he was posted to Juying Secondary as the Head of the Physical Education Department where he successfully improved the physical fitness levels of the students considerably.In 2003, he was appointed as the Vice-Principal of Zhangde Primary School where he served for 7 years as the champion of Positive Multiplying Attitude.In 2010, he was posted to MacPherson Primary School where he advocated Positive Behaviour Support, Family Life, and Dads For Life. As a firm believer of Restorative Practice, he successfully restored strained and broken relationships among the students, parents and staff while in MacPherson Primary School. He was also the heart and voice for the less privileged children and families until his retirement in December 2016.Now, John is a beekeeper and the founder of BEE AMAZED Garden and MY HONEY. He has an online honey shop selling honey from the land flowing with milk and honey under his own brand, MY HONEY.Lesster LeowLate 2000, Lesster Leow set foot in Uganda and became a beekeeper. His 17 years journey through the “The Pearl of Africa” had brought him many exciting adventures. Having zero knowledge in this green culture, Lesster just packed and went without knowing what lied ahead.His most enriching experience is working with the African honeybees, They are the most aggressive species of all honeybees found on earth.Currently he is back in Singapore for a short period as he is expanding his work around IndoChina.
