A row of low-rise apartments are sited along Kim Tian Road and are connected at the 5th storey roof level by a continuous communal space, expressed as an 'elevated green' that spans across the entire front elevation. This green roof wraps up and around a short tower (Block 11), which is punctuated with sky terraces, a gesture in response to the presence of the adjacent park. The green deck and sky terraces are expressed with organic geometries, with an off-form concrete texture in contrast to the building proper. Two sleek twin towers (Block 7 and 9) have a clear, sharp profile highlighted by a singular vertical feature that ends with a 'crown'. These components are arranged as a way of anchoring the site whilst addressing the existing view corridors. The Working Capitol | FARM(Photo used with permission from The Working Capitol)The Working Capitol is a co-working space at the edge of Keong Saik Road, consisting of an amalgamation of a series of existing shop houses. Located at the heart of the key conservation district, the project consists of architectural restoration and A&A with change of use of the existing building. The 1st storey floor plate was subdivided into 4 restaurants and a café which serves as the entrance to the offices on the 2nd & 3rd storeys. Consisting of event halls, meeting rooms, smaller offices and hot-desking spaces, and a café at the ground floor, the Working Capitol is conceived as a melting pot for community of different knowledge workers to grow and interact.Stark House | Park+Associates(Photo used with permission from Park + Associates)The clients first approached us asking that their new home not be just another square box that many contemporary architecture is made of, nor did they want a house that blended in with its neighbours, reflecting a very human desire to be different from the rest. Together with the client’s brief, the planning of the house was conceived utilising the site’s natural topography and mature trees at the back of the site. As such, it is apparent that the living spaces in the house turn away from the front where the view is that of neighbouring houses, a common consequence of landed housing estates such as this. Instead, it faces the back of the house where the greenery provides a private, green sanctuary. The planning sought to maximise the porosity through the site, revealing the view towards the greenery at the back of the site. Designing for porosity was also a response to the site constraint, a strategy to make the site appear deeper than it actually is. As one approaches the house, s/he is not confronted with a blank wall that abruptly terminates one’s movement, but greeted with a green expanse that is welcoming both to the inhabitants and visitors alike.Special Notes for the this site:a.
