Memories of Kwan Shan MeiSpeakers: Lee Yeow Heng, Edwin Ng, Lim Geok Leng, Wendy Toh Moderator: Oscar Ng Hwee Leng  Kwan Shan Mei lived and worked in Singapore from 1963 to 1999, creating many classics such as the Moongate series, the Adventures of Mooty the Mouse and Animal Frolics. But her readers did not know much about her as she was a very private person. Join us for an intimate afternoon of sharing by friends and ex-colleagues as they reminisce about the consummate illustrator.This session is presented in conjunction with the Kwan Shan Mei: Drawing From The Heart exhibition, as part of the 9th edition of the Asian Festival of Children's Content. ------------------------------------------------------------------------About the SpeakersLEE YEOW HENGIn 1997, after wowing the Singapore National Day Parade crowd with his many animated characters creations, Lee Yeow Heng went on to create the animated character Pura the cat and the iconic toy SpaceSpore for his comic books. Of the numerous characters created for his animated series, his favorites can be found in the "Adventures of Wesley" and in “Pura, the Magic Cat”, the latter commissioned by the publisher of Singapore National Parade. An extremely artistically talented person, Yeow Heng has an innate flair for visualizing, designing, illustrating and creating and his special touch is prevalent in advertisements, his comic books and through the creation of characters in animated series. He further extends his artistic talent to companies like Bates Advertising, J. Walter Thompson Singapore Pte. Ltd., Singapore Tourism Board and the Ministry of Information Communications and the Arts. A graduate of Nanyang Academy Of Arts, Lee Yeow Heng is now a full time Art Teacher. SpaceSpore, his latest creation, is an icon of strength and courage for our beliefs and positive attitude.WENDY TOHWendy Toh is a close family friend and god-daughter of Kwan Shan Mei after getting to know her through her friendship with Kwan Shan Mei’s daughter, Loretta. Now semi-retired, she works part-time as a clinic assistant at Toa Payoh.OSCAR NGOscar Ng was inspired by Kwan Shan Mei’s illustrations since primary school that she doodled on every textbook. She furthered her studies at Central St Martin’s in UK and returned to serve at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts for 21 years.
