This panel will discuss the pleasures and problems in translation.About The PanelDr Yeo Wei WeiDr. Yeo Wei Wei is a writer and translator. Her interest in translation began during her graduate student days at the University of Cambridge. Her doctoral dissertation includes research on translations of Dante in the nineteenth century. Her translations of Chinese poetry have been published in anthologies and journals in Singapore, Australia and Taiwan.Yeo is the author of a critically acclaimed collection of short stories These Foolish Things & other stories. Recently her short story ‘Here Comes The Sun’ was translated into French. Apart from short stories and translations, Yeo has also published essays on art, poetry, and theatre. She completed her MA in Creative Writing at University of East Anglia in 2017. She is currently working on a translation project and her first novel.Mr Daryl YamDaryl Qilin Yam is a writer of prose and poetry, editor, and an arts organiser at the literary charity Sing Lit Station. His first novel, Kappa Quartet (Epigram Books, 2016), was long listed for the 2015 Epigram Books Fiction Prize, and has been released in both Singapore and theU.K. He is presently working on his second novel, with support from the National Arts Council.Mr Hamid RoslanMr Loh Guan LiangLoh Guan Liang is the author of two poetry collections: Bitter Punch (Ethos Books, 2016) and Transparent Strangers (Math Paper Press, 2012). Healsoco-translated Art Studio (Math Paper Press,2014), a Chinese novel by Singapore Cultural Medallion recipient Yeng Pway Ngon. Winner of the 2011 Moving Words poetry competition organised by SMRT and The Literary Centre, his poems have been featured in the Singapore Memory Project and The Substation Love Letters Project.
