artworks showcase in their exhibition - Stillscapes at NPE Art Residency. Both artists reflected their living through the visual arts. Merryn is particularly interested in
the cluttering visuals of architectures around us which may trigger a psychological impact to the
city dweller. The city as quoted by the artist is a reality dominated by the digital and flooded with
information. This can be well-captured in the bold colours and housing visual of her works. On the
other hand, Joel’s photographic works examined the contradiction between the polished and define
outlook of the city, and the convenient and cheap living of the people through shopping and
collecting objects from selected shops in Singapore to create images that took reference to Dutch
17th century paintings. Artists often took their inspirations from the environment and society that they are in. What are your thoughts about the city? Are there any places or objects in this city that leave an impression on you?
