It is also Singapore's first World Heritage Site. During this tour, you will discover its 150 years of history, including its role as the birth place of Southeast Asia's rubber and orchid industries. Orchids have been closely associated with the Gardens since 1859 and the products of the breeding programme are displayed in their full splendour in the National Orchid Garden. With over 1,000 species and 2,000 hybrids on display, the beauty of these gorgeous blooms is absolutely a sight to behold.Tour highlights include the bandstand; garden sculptures; Heritage Trees; and historical Burkhill Hall with its prized collection of VIP orchids such as Dendrobium Margaret Thatcher and Papilionanda William Catherine. The tour will end with a visit to the SBG's Heritage Museum which features artefacts, plant specimens, rare botanical books and botanical paintings that date back to the early 19th century. Here you will learn about the key personalities that have shaped and marked this iconic place. Our Tuesday Small-Group Discovery Walks are aimed at visitors and new Singapore residents, but we find even "old timers" learn a lot. We keep to a max of 10 and pace the walk to take our sultry climate into account; lots of water and air-con stops are included. Due to the small-group size the price is just a little higher. Please note confirmation of this tour includes the exact meeting place and will be sent by email to all those registered about 24 hours in advance; this will be preceded by a Peatix or Verlocal message to all registered."I would like to thank you for the tour yesterday, it’s been a wonderful morning!
