friends, each a virtuoso, decide to come together to honour Johannes Brahms for
his 185th Anniversary, through this chamber music concert.EDMUND HUANG started learning the
piano at the age of 5 and the violin at age 7. He switched to viola prior his
National Service, under the tutelage of Jiri Heger. Soon after, he got into the
class of Professor Matthias Maurer (Solo Viola Royal Concertgebouw, Professor
of KunstUniversität Graz and Conservatory of Dramatic Arts Vienna). He also
received frequent chamber music lessons from Stephan Gorner from the Carmina
Quartet and pianist Dr.Stefan Zikoudis. He
has participated in music festivals such as Summa Cum Laude International Youth
Festival and Bled Music Festival. He received masterclass from Thomas Riebl,
Vacalv Hudecek and Volker Hartung. He has served as principal viola during his
university years in KunstUniversität Graz Orchestra and Vienna Young Artist Orchestra.
He once had the chance to play under the baton of great maestro Aldo Ceccato
and also alongside with legendary Jazz trumpeter Randy Brecker. He is currently
freelancing with the Cologne New Philharmonic Orchestra. With
his experiences in orchestra playing, he performed in places such as Wiener
Musikverein, Graz Musikverein, Koln Philharmonie, Esplanade Concert Hall and
Victoria Concert Hall. Recently he was invited to give violin/viola Masterclass
in Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand. Edmund
plays on a 1790 Franconis Pire Pillement violin, and modern Italian viola kindly loan from the Bernini Collection in Italy.LESLIE
TAN, cellist of the internationally renowned T’ang Quartet has
performed, both as a soloist and a chamber musician, to critical acclaim in
major venues and festivals around the world. Some of these festivals include
the Tanglewood and Aspen Festivals in the USA; the Melbourne and Port Fairy
Festivals in Australia; the New Zealand Festival; the Hong Kong Arts Festival;
and the Prague-Vienna-Budapest Sommerakademie and Aarhuus Festivals in Europe.
He has also been broadcasted by the BBC in London.In
1980, after only 4 years of cello studies, Leslie was awarded a scholarship to
further his studies in London where he graduated from both the Trinity College
of Music and the Royal College of Music. Leslie went on to the
Tchaikovsky-Moscow State Conservatory as a graduate-assistant of Natalia
Shahkovskaya. In the USA, he was a pupil of Paul Katz and Norman Fischer.Leslie
was a cellist in the Singapore Symphony Orchestra for 13 years. In a career
that has spanned over 20 years, from orchestral to chamber and solo performances,
he is very much sought after as a pedagogue as well as a performer. Leslie has
ventured into other disciplines, collaborating with artists in dance, theatre
and popular music. He also teaches at School of the Arts (SOTA) and conducts
music workshops & talks to actively bring chamber music to a wider
audience.Leslie
is now on the faculty of the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music at the
National University of Singapore and was with the Boston University Tanglewood
Institute from 2001 to 2005. OLEKSANDR KORNIEV is currently a teaching assistant at
Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, National University of Singapore where he
studies with Prof. Qian Zhou. He was recently awarded 3rd prize at
the Singapore International Violin Competition 2018. In 2017, he won major
prizes at Zhuhai Mozart International Violin and Piano Competition and Chengdu
Invitational Violin Competition. In 2016, Oleksandr won the Grand Prix of
Astana International Violin Competition in Kazakhstan and 1st prize at Futian
International Violin Competition in China. He was the was the sem-finalist of
Singapore International Violin Competition in 2015. He won 4th prize in Lysenko
International Competition in Ukraine in 2012. He has attended master classes with Leonidas
Kavakos, Zakhar Bron, Valeriy Sokolov, Boris Kushnir, Ivry Gitlis, Shmuel
Ashkenazi, Vadim Repin, Haim Taub and Paul Rochek. As a soloist and chamber
musician, he has performed in Ukraine, Poland, Austria, Switzerland, Germany,
Russia, Japan, Israel, USA, Kazakhstan, China and Singapore. Born in Ukraine, Oleksandr started learning the violin when he was 5. In
2001, he was admitted to the Kharkiv Specialized Middle Music school where he
studied with Prof. Vladimir Svitchkarenko. In 2011, he was admitted to the Kiev
National Music Academy where he studied with Prof. Olga Ryvnyak.YULIANA RUMIANTSEVA is a concert pianist, piano teacher,
accompanist and chamber musician. Yuliana was born in Kharkiv (Ukraine), and
started learning piano at age of 4. In 2000, she was admitted to Kharkiv
Secondary Specialised Music School for gifted children in the class of Prof
Svetlana Zakharova. From 2011, she enrolled in National Music Academy of
Ukraine in the class of Professor Yuri Kot and completed her Master Degree in
2016.She has won major prizes in a number of international competitions, such
as "Ústí nad Labem" 2003 (1st prize), "The Chords of
Khortitsa"(2nd prize), "21st Century Art" (2nd prize) and many
others. Yuliana regularly performs in Ukraine and abroad, as a chamber musician
and an accompanist. In 2013, she premiered the works of Ukrainian composer
Pavel Kolpakov and for 3 years, was a member of the Musical Society for Young
Musicians and Composers "Sonor Continuos".
Since 2016, Yuliana has been living in Singapore where she continues
