Come meet your favourite local writers and honour their best works!This open invitation is also to mark the 50th anniversary of the Singapore Book Council this year, and to celebrate Singapore's birthday through our books and stories.To promote SLP and showcase the writers, we will be organising a series of public talks at local bookstores, schools, as well as the National Library as part of Read! Established in 1992, the biennial competition is open to Singapore citizens and Permanent Residents whose works in three categories – fiction, poetry, and creative non-fiction – have been published in Singapore or abroad. Each category is open to works written in any of Singapore’s four official languages: Chinese, English, Malay and Tamil. The objectives of SLP are:• To promote the Singapore literary talent through due recognition to outstanding published works by Singapore authors in any of the four official languages: English, Chinese, Malay, or Tamil;• To stimulate public interest and support for creative writing in Singapore.The prize carries an award of $10,000 for the winner in each of the four languages for all three categories (12 awards in total). In addition, the winners will be awarded with a specially commissioned plaque.The Singapore Literature Prize is an award given by the Singapore Book Council, a charity founded in 1968. Its vision is to Build Our Imagine-nation by developing creativity, imagination and original thought through writing, reading, illustrating and storytelling.
