In 1950, 53% of Japan’s population lived in urban areas. As masses of young people flock to the bright lights of urban centres like Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya, that number has risen sharply - to almost 95% today. Local governments in rural areas are struggling to figure out how they can provide adequate services with increasingly strained budgets, and how to take care of its elderly citizens in communities with fewer and fewer workers. Creating viable solutions to Japan’s challenges in rural areas is critical to the country’s economic, political, social and environmental future. And Japan, though at the forefront, is by no means alone in facing these challenges. Solutions borne in Japan have the potential to be exported and scaled around the world.===== On 19th June, we’re excited to invite Dennis Chia to speak about what's happening in rural Japan, and what he’s doing about it with his social enterprise, Boundless. Boundless works with regional governments, companies, and other stakeholders to revitalize Japan’s regions, through its Sosei Partners project. The Sosei Partners project is creating a learning and empowerment platform for the international community to contribute to the Japan's regional revitalization movement by injecting fresh perspectives.
