Dancing the Algorithm (DatA)  Performance-lectureFundamentally starting with the broader question of “How do we dance collectively?”, Dancing the Algorithm finds itself negotiating the space between dancing bodies and computational logic. Driven as a process-led inquiry, the project is a duet of computational fragments with movements learnt, generated and regenerated from individually coded movement DNA to expand on the tools for dance-making and performance. In this session, the team will share selected documentation of our experimentations with motion capture technology, as well as a prototype of the system in action. A performance lecture demonstrating dancing living and digital bodies will serve as a type 01 of a living dance archive, whilst reflecting on the experimentations in collective dance dynamics and the potential of collaborating with the machine for artistic expression.There will be a 30-minute guided tour of the Performing Arts x Tech Lab Industry Sharing exhibition after the event. About the team Dapheny Chen is an independent dance artist who negotiates between the roles of a choreographer, performer, educator and manager. Breaking away from her conventional dance training, she navigates the possibilities of contemporary dance, while seeking to create alternative nodes of experience and entry points as conversations for change and knowledge.SERIAL CO_ is a creative technology studio led by Jake Tan and Ernest Wu, composed of digital natives. We focus on producing and developing art projects, products, and services. With a belief that the future is collaborative, our studio aims to connect the physical and digital worlds through immersive experiences.Website: serial.sgIG: @serialco_ About the Performing Arts x Tech Lab Industry Sharing The Performing Arts x Tech Lab Industry Sharing invites practitioners interested in the possibilities, opportunities, and frictions between performing arts and various technologies. Marking the culmination of the nine-month Performing Arts x Tech Lab, the Industry Sharing features an exhibition of the Lab projects, alongside a programme of live demos, playtests, and sharing sessions by the participants of the Lab. Come and experience a diverse range of innovative explorations by the six project teams that have delved into technological explorations and applications in performing arts and performance-making such as the archival of dance movement, interactive systems, and performer-controlled stage effects. Join us to learn from  the teams as they share about their Lab journeys, and how their experiences have sparked various discoveries about the intersections between performing arts and technology.  The Performing Arts x Tech Lab is organised by the National Arts Council in collaboration with Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, with Keio-NUS CUTE Center as technology consultant.  Note on accessibility: This event is held in a wheelchair-accessible venue.
