Back in 2020, during the throes of the pandemic, Abel Maningas & Tan Shu Hiong were looking for a way to practice our design sprint chops. That’s when they crossed paths with United Voice Malaysia. United Voice Malaysia is an NGO that empowers people with learning disabilities so they can gain skills and earn a living for themselves. A great and honorable cause, but United Voice was struggling. Because of the pandemic, they had trouble selling the products that their members made because the bazaars that they used to join weren’t there anymore. This caused problems with their funding and the training of their members. In the spirit of learning and social good, Abel and Hiong rallied a few volunteers who wanted to learn about Design Sprints. Together, they helped United Voice launch a new model for selling their products and getting donations. To this day, that initiative still has quite a number of active patrons. Unknowingly, the team created a very unique space for learning and social good. Funding has always been a challenge for Civil Society Organizations like United Voice. And that challenge is becoming even more problematic in the past few years as sources of funding continue to dry up. These organizations need help so they can continue their missions. To help the marginalized, protect nature, and keep business and governments in check. After joining Product Tonic Lab, Abel discovered the value of learning and building relationships for leadership. And after looking back at his career and creating a vision of where he want to be as a professional, he's looking to recreate that ‘space’ that was created with United Voice. A space where product people can sharpen their skills and CSOs can get help to solve their challenges. If you want to create an impact and sharpen your skills as a person in product or tech, then join Product for Good. Where we’ll explore how we can create a better future for CSOs while learning the fundamentals of product development.Updatestag:peatix.com,2024-03-25 23:19:112024-03-25 23:19:11The event description was updated.
