Join curator Tom White as he facilitates a conversation with Lilianne Fan, Co-Founder and International Director of Geutanyoë Malaysia, and photographer Alexander Treves to confront the gravity of this global tragedy and explore avenues for meaningful action and solidarity.***Lilianne Fan is Co-Founder and International Director of Geutanyoë Malaysia, a humanitarian organisation based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She also serves as the Joint Head of the Secretariat to the All-Party Parliamentary Group Malaysia on Refugee Policy, a bi-partisan caucus of 9 Members of Parliament in Malaysia since 2019, and the Head of the Secretariat to the Malaysian Advisory Group on Myanmar, chaired by Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr. Syed Hamid Albar. She is a Steering Committee Member of the Southeast Asia Women Peace Mediators, established by Indonesian Foreign Minister H.E. Retno Warsidi in 2020. Lilianne was also appointed in 2020 as a Commissioner on the international Lancet Commission for Health and Human Rights.Lilianne is a cultural anthropologist and humanitarian professional with more than 25 years of experience working with refugees, internally displaced persons, and communities affected by conflict and disaster, including displaced persons from Myanmar, Palestine, Syria, Afghanistan, and Yemen. She provides regular expertise to a range of institutions and governments including the UN, the World Bank, the Government of Malaysia, the Malaysian Parliament, the Government of Indonesia, and ASEAN. She holds an MA in Anthropology from Columbia University, New York.***Alexander Treves has photographed refugees and other displaced people in over 20 countries. He aspires to use photography not just to document issues that he cares about, but also to raise awareness and money to assist with the underlying problems. Proceeds from sales of his books “Glimpses Over The Edge” and “Freefall” benefit refugee charities. He won second prize in the Hong Kong Human Rights Arts Prize, 2021.***Tom White studied Fine Art at Goldsmiths College, and Photojournalism and Documentary Photography at the International Center of Photography in New York.  He has taught classes at Columbia University’s School of Journalism and at the International Center of Photography. He has also worked extensively with the ICP’s Community Programs department, teaching darkroom photography classes and working with youth on a post incarceration/at risk program.
