It illustrates the idea that by recalling the past, we gain a better understanding of the present. The images, sounds, and words that we encounter are drawn and layered from collective experiences and perceptions shared among people in the past. Despite their personal significance, they also possess a universal aspect. In this exhibition, Suzuki captures this concept by metaphorically depicting landscapes of time through the lens of a cosmic egg, while Yamazawa allows musical instruments to express themselves through song. The concept of “association” is indispensable to the experiments that we have done so far. Association refers to the occurrence of ideas connected to one another. The two of us explore associations in both imagery and sound. Whether consciously or subconsciously, we all engage in this process of association, which subtly influences our interactions with words and concepts.The Beginning of “Gallery Kura” was “Matsuyamado”, a relocated 1917 storehouse, once used by the area's book distributors, then changing its name to “Gallery Awajicho” in 1983. Now, “Renso Shuppan” , a publishing company focused on fostering associations by linking various sources of information such as the libraries, art museums, and museums in general, is a management base. It has been over six months since the decision to exhibit in the gallery was made, leading us to contemplate this exhibition, in collaboration with a space used as a book storage.
