prized above all others in traditional China. More than just denoting specific meanings through a character, its very form should reveal itself to be a moral
exemplar, as well as a manifestation of the energy of the human body and the
vitality of nature itself. In collaboration with the Confucius Institute NTU, LATENT SPACES is proud to have Mr Chew Ho Son introduce the basic elements of Chinese calligraphy - the 5 Styles of Chinese writing, 8 Basic Brushstrokes, 4 Treasures of Study, and the history of the formation of Chinese characters. Participants will also be guided in a simple hands-on practice of basic brushstrokes and write words/greeting phrases such as:福 (blessing), 寿 (long life), 乐 (happiness),
致逺 (reach
further), 永恒之爱 (everlasting
love), 马年大吉 (Wish you luck in the year of Horse), 富贵吉祥 (Wishing new prosperity) amongst others. This course is suited for the calligraphy and brush drawing amateur. All materials will be provided.Mr
