These written texts often reflect records from the local people. It challenges our common perception of standard Chinese texts, and are usually used in contexts where the local Chinese communicate in topolects (fangyan) and the local vernaculars. Given the interaction between the Sinitic/Chinese communities with other ethnic groups, the Sinophone texts found in this region differ from that of other places, including mainland China.
