The potter's wheel did not appear in history until
approximately 4,000 years ago. Prior to that, pinch and coil construction
methods prevailed as the main ways Man worked with clay. Simple vessels such as bowls and cups have been made through the pinch pot technique across cultures and
times. Interacting with clay through pinching can teach us tactile
sensitivity. Through this process, we more easily learn to rely on our fingers
to tell us information about the clay, developing an awareness of
form, thickness and texture of our object.
Master Potter Lim Kim Hui will be guiding participants to pinch
their own cups in this session. All materials and firing charges are included.
This workshop is suitable for participants with or without prior experience
with ceramic. Trained and taught at Ming Village Ceramics, Mr Lim furthered his
practice through numerous research trips to Japan. He is currently Master
Potter at Ceramic House and the Pottery Class of Japanese Association. You may
find out more about Mr Lim's work here:www.ceramichousesg.com
As firing is carried
out only after this session, your cup has to be self-collected at Ceramic
House. Address: 9004 Tampines
