Andrew’s formative experiences in the United States lead him to develop a deep respect for American style and sensibilities. While certainly a “more is more” personality, Gn nonetheless is perennially inspired by the classic, easy-to-wear shapes and silhouettes prevalent in American fashion. Join Fashion and Textile Curator Petra Slinkard as she talks about the influence the US fashion industry has had on the work of Andrew Gn, as well his continued impact on the American market.About the speakerPetra Slinkard joined the Peabody Essex Museum (PEM) in 2018, following her role as Curator of Costume at the Chicago History Museum, where she worked with a collection of more than 50,000 examples of fashion and textiles used in exhibitions, research, and community outreach. At PEM, Slinkard fosters the growth and inclusive spirit of the museum’s fashion collection to develop a vibrant array of exhibitions, installations, and programmes that celebrate the global impact of fashion and textiles. Slinkard oversees the museum’s newly opened Fashion and Design gallery and served as the co-curator of Made It: The Women Who Revolutionized Fashion, organised in association with the Kunstmuseum Den Haag. She recently coordinated the exhibition Patrick Kelly: Runway of Love at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Slinkard has worked with designers and artists such as Jeffrey Banks, Becca McCaren-Tran, Andrew Gn, Hogan McLaughlin, and Bill Crisafi.About the moderatorJackie Yoong is Senior Curator of Fashion and Textiles at the Asian Civilisations Museum and Peranakan Museum. Her recent exhibitions include Andrew Gn: Fashioning Singapore and the World, Guo Pei: Chinese Art and Couture, and the permanent fashion galleries at the Asian Civilisations Museum and Peranakan Museum. She is currently serving on the International Council of Museums Costume Board.
