The story is set in 1890, on a whaling ship that has been at sea for nearly two years. The obsessive Captain Keeney insists on returning home with a full cargo of whale oil, in spite of inhospitable weather conditions and the wishes of the crew. His wife, also onboard the ship, pleads with her husband to return home. Advisory to audience members with children: the performance contains brief violence and weapon use.
