HASAMI PORCELAIN  X  CACTUS STOREA Collaborative Launch EventDate: Thursday, March 22ndTime: 6:00 PM - 8:30 PMThursday, March 22nd, from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM, Tortoise is excited to host Echo Park's Cactus Store in a special collaborative event launching the newest line of ceramic planters by Hasami Porcelain, designed by Tortoise owner, Taku Shinomoto.  Please join us from 7:00 PM to 7:30 PM for a special talk by Cactus Store's, Christian Herman Cummings, where he'll discuss the ways plants and people communicate with each other and the depth of the plant/human relationships.  Christian will dive into the myths and bio-politics surrounding plant/human relationships by looking at plant cognition research and at the cultivation and connoisseurship of certain plant genera.  Christian's talk will also include a history of Astrophytum cultivation in Japan.  An introductory run of sixty potted Hasami planters with collectible Astrophytum cactus will be available for purchase on the day of the event, until we run out :) Sizes of the planters are 4.25'' h x 3.3/'' d for smaller planters ($27.50 for just the planter) and 4.25'' h x 5.5/8'' d for large planters ($45 for just the planter).  Planters come in 4 colors: natural, clear (grey), black and blue.  Prices for the event's potted Hasami planters with collectible cactus will vary.In order to accommodate everyone for the cactus talk with Christian Herman Cummings, please take the time to let us know that you are coming!If you are unable to make it to the launch event, we will have an additional event with the Cactus Store on March 31st, Saturday at the Tortoise General Store, our Abbot Kinney location.
