Join us this 25 - 26 March 2023 as we celebrate all things literature with some of our most beloved writers 💖Note: All events for the Sing Lit Shuttle are free of charge, unless stated otherwise below. There will be a $5 refundable deposit made to secure your ticket, which will be returned upon your arrival at the event. Sing Lit Station reserves the right to retain your deposit if you arrive more than half the duration of the event. Please note that there is a cat in the premises, and that Sing Lit Station is located on the second storey of a shophouse with no lift. Do contact us directly if you have any accessibility issues.Saturday, 25 March 2023, 12pm - 1.30pm @ Sing Lit StationA Translators' Guide to Navigating the Stars A panel discussion with Daryl Lim Wei Jie, Dr Yeo Wei Wei, and Ang Jin Yong, moderated by Annaliza BakriThere are thousands of beautiful stories in the world, and many of them would remain locked away if not for the invaluable work of this unsung group of heroes: translators. In this panel, join this selection of writers and translators as they talk about the art of translation and what goes through their minds when they are repackaging the works of other writers for a different language.This 1hr panel will be followed by a 30-minute sale and signing of Diasporic, Dr Yeo Wei Wei's translations of short stories by Soon Ai Ling. She will also be signing copies of Clan, her adaptations and transcreations of short stories by Soon Ai Ling. We will also be taking pre-orders for Short Tongue, Daryl Lim Wei Jie's translation of the Singaporean Chinese poet Wang Mun Kiat's work. Saturday, 25 March 2023, 2pm - 4pm @ Gifted Fight AcademyThe Space FightersA panel discussion with Jed Foo, Syafiq "The Slasher" Abdul Samad, Garie Tang, and Shiyin Tan, moderated by Joses Ho, and a combat demonstration with Tucum & Baiana Santos (Capoiera), Syafiq "The Slasher" Abdul Samad (Boxing), and Shiyin Tan & Radeem Rahman (MMA) There is something otherworldly about a fighter's ability to keep getting up, even when the punches are raining down. In this panel discussion, get to know some of Singapore's most badass fighters as they explore how combat sports have increased their resilience and impacted their lives. Join up-and-coming writers Jonathan Chan, Ng Ziqin, and literary organiser Yap Hao Yang as they talk about their work and share their insights and reflections on the world of publishing in Singapore.Jonathan Chan's book Going Home (2022) and Ng Ziqin's book Every School a Good School will be available for sale. Saturday, 25 March 2023, 5pm - 6.30pm @ Sing Lit StationThe All StarsA series of conversations with Balli Kaur Jaswal, Rachel Heng, and Tse Hao Guang, led by Daryl Qilin Yam To celebrate the book launches of some of Singapore’s favourite writers, Daryl Qilin Yam will be taking us into the intimate worlds created and inhabited by Balli Kaur Jaswal, Rachel Heng, and Tse Hao Guang through a series of conversations with the writers. One conversation will take place on the beach; another will be recorded from over 9,000 miles away; and the last will take place in person at Sing Lit Station. All of them will be delightful. Joshua Ip will also be popping in to analyse texts that will be randomly chosen by Sploosh for what promises to be an entertaining and educational deep dive into his poetry. Expect the usual amount of poetic shenanigans (whatever that entails) and come prepared to make friends, groove to great music, or snap your fingers for the spontaneous poetry readings that are likely to arise. Selva, with live illustration by artist Raymond LiBuilding on her writing and sketching workshops, Sing Lit Station presents the final workshop led by Dr Pallavi Narayan, a 2023 Jalan Besar Fellow. Hosted at the Sri Lankan restaurant Kotuwa, Wanderlust Hotel, Pallavi’s co-hosts for this lunch conversation will be Malaysian writer and spoken word artist Melizarani T. Selva and Singaporean artist Raymond Li. While lunch will be served, Pallavi and Meliza will engage the participants in dialogue on mapping the South Asian food landscape in Singapore while Raymond will perform a sketching demo. As this event entails a full meal with several courses, it is ticketed at $40 per person paid upon registration, and limited to an intimate group of 16 participants.
