In this workshop, poet Desmond Kon Zhicheng-Mingdé help participants discover how poetry may offer a powerful means of healing, in excavating buried emotions and expressing them in crafted language. Indeed, the truth of experience may articulate itself through captivating image and sound. How does one also gain empathy through such art creation? From mastering the craft to those building a community of writers and readers, they are all part of weaving and strengthening the fabric of our literary landscape.About the facilitatorDesmond Kon Zhicheng-Mingdé is the author of an epistolary novel, two hybrid works, and eight poetry collections. A former journalist, he has edited more than fifteen books and co-produced three audio books. Trained in publishing at Stanford University, Desmond studied sociology and mass communication at the National University of Singapore, and later received his theology masters (world religions) from Harvard University and fine arts masters (creative writing) from the University of Notre Dame. Among other accolades, Desmond is the recipient of the IBPA Benjamin Franklin Award, Independent Publisher Book Award, National Indie Excellence Book Award, Poetry World Cup, Singapore Literature Prize, two Beverly Hills International Book Awards, three Living Now Book Awards, and seven USA Regional Excellence Book Awards.
