The Red Chamber" by Chinese Theatre Circle (CTC) in collaboration with
Kreta Ayer Community Club Cantonese Opera Group in June 2014 at the
Drama Centre Theatre, Mr Leslie Wong, playwright of the Opera will be
conducting a workshop in Cantonese at the Kreta Ayer Community Club on Sunday 18 May 2014 from 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm. Although conducted in Cantonese, the audience may ask questions in English or Mandarin."Dream
Of The Red Chamber" is the most influential Chinese novel in the
history of Chinese literature.
It is also the novel most extensively discussed and debated by
Chinese scholars, within and without the "Red School of Thought". It is
commonly believed that the first eighty chapters were written by Cai
Xue Jin, a great scholar during the Qing Dynasty and the remaining forty
chapters written by another scholar Liu Er after him. In this workshop,
Leslie Wong will discuss the authorship and contents as well as the
literary values of this novel, besides explaining how he went about
rewriting the script for the coming presentation. The workshop will also
feature Ms Ang Cheng Hong and Ms Chan Mei Leng, leading artists for the
roles of Jia Baoyu and Lin Daiyu respectively, performing several songs
written by Leslie Wong. Tickets at $20.00 (inclusive of Tea). Ticket
