The increased focus on our built heritage, district-scale programmes, and community engagement are all contributing to this, and in recent times been classified as ‘placemaking’ efforts. But what exactly does that mean? In this sharing session, we feature placemaking practitioners from Singapore and the world to shed light on this field that transcends traditional design disciplines such as urban design, architecture, experience design, and more. We will also explore questions such as: Why is placemaking important? Why are we doing it? Is placemaking a person, event, or process? Who should we involve in transforming our urban spaces into memorable places? How can we activate and revitalise our heritage districts with purpose and sensitivity? How can various stakeholders work together to achieve it?SPEAKERS & PANEL DISCUSSIONThe session will feature Ethan Kent, Senior Vice President of Project for Public Spaces (PPS) who will be speaking about Placemaking as a global movement; Hasti Tarekat, founder of Heritage Hands On, who will speak about urban revitalisation in heritage districts; and co-founder of Singapore placemaking studio Shophouse & Co, Adib Jalal, who will also share about Placemaking as a local, collaborative, and multi-disciplinary process. The three speakers will then join private real estate developers Karen Tan, Founder of Pocket Projects and The Projector, and Vivienne Soon, Director of Breezeway Development, on a panel discussion. Stella Gwee, co-founder of Shophouse & Co will also be joining them, to discuss the role of both private developers and placemaking strategies in creating a vibrant city for people.Note: Light refreshments will be provided-----About National Design Centre (NDC)The National Design Centre (NDC) is the nexus for all things design.
